The Chaligne Refuge (mountain hut) opened on June the 21th 2006. It is located on the Alpe Chaligne (1943 m.), in the municipality of Gignod, along the track going from Buthier to Pointe Chaligne. From Buthier you can reach Alpe Mendey and the track “3A” (average hiking time: 1 hour and 15 minutes). The refuge can even be reached by MTB (5 km along the unpaved road)
The Chaligne mountain hut, along with seven other mountain huts in the Aosta Valley, has been awarded the 2008 Quality Charter, a certification established by the Regional Department of Tourism, Sport, Trade and Transport, in collaboration with the Department of Commodity Sciences at the University of Turin, which recognises establishments offering a high standard of hospitality.
The Chaligne mountain refuge is the result of the renovation of a traditional stone and timber mountain hut. Particular attention has been paid to environmental sustainability and to respecting the existing architecture, with extensive use of local materials.
The furnishings were made from timber sourced partly from land reclamation projects in the area and treated with environmentally friendly products.
The mountain hut is equipped with solar panels to ensure environmentally friendly hot water production and to supplement the heating system during the colder months.
The interiors are tastefully decorated with a love for local tradition.
There are many excursions to the mountain pastures, following guided routes that allow guests to observe and learn about the local environment and activities.
The mountain refuge has a partnership with the spa facilities at Terme di Pré-Saint-Didier, Spa & Wellness
The restaurant offers products and dishes made out of the purest Aosta Valley tradition. Among the traditional products, a special place is given to
the dairy products produced in the surrounding mountain pastures.

StarsBOX is more than a nest: it is a synthesis of shelter and travel, a dream box where you can get drunk e on stars and light up. Half tent, half po’ hut, it offers protection but can also open up to the sky to display all that nature has to offer in terms of aesthetics.

From Aosta follows S.S. 27 direction Gran San Bernardo. Four km after the village of Gignod follow the signal to Buthier on the left and go on for 4 km, till you reach the unpaved road. Leave the car and walk to the Shelter.
From the Gran San Bernardo Tunnel follow the S.S. 27 direction Aosta, 5 km after the village of Etroubles follow the signal on the right to Buthier and go on for 4 km, till you reach the unpaved road. Leave the car and walk to the Shelter.
